A no Cell Phone policy in a school, the same policy is needed for children’s bedrooms too!
(Satpal Singh Johal) – (ਸੋਚੀਏ, ਸਮਝੀਏ ਪਰ ਮੰਨੀਏ ਵੀ ਤਾਂ ਸਹੀ!) -The principal of Sunny View Middle School (in Brampton’s ward 9) confirms that they have implemented a no cell phone policy at their school. Cell phones are collected from the students at the beginning of each school day and kept in the office until the end of the day. This policy helps, during the school day, eliminate inappropriate conversations and dialogues among the students, teachers, and principal say. Inappropriate dialogues lead to fights in the school.
– ਫੋਨ ਮਿਲ਼ਦੇ ਸਾਰ ਗਾਲੋਬਾਲੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ!: School staff also confirms that inappropriate dialogues (over social media chatting) resume after school hours, on weekends also, and when the phones are returned to the students. Parents must be mindful of their children’s cell phone use when they are at home, especially when they carry their cell phones in the bedrooms for the night.
– ਮਾਪਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਿਆ: Sunny View Middle School’s parents’ council met on January 26. Handling of the vaping (ਮੁਸ਼ਕਰਹਿਤ ਸਿਗਰਟਾਂ) situation was discussed in that meeting. After implementing the consequences for those students who engaged in vaping, no repeats on school property were noticed by the same students. The parents were made aware that vaping is happening after the school day in the community. The school staff is also actively navigating issues around bullying and racism.
– ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ: Problems (altercations, aggression) fumed and groomed through unsupervised use of social media chats at home and in society may grow and become bigger in the schools. The fights that occur after the school day or on weekends, often begin on social media chats that are (freely, unsupervised) used by children from home.
– ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਕੋਲ਼ ਫੋਨ ਕਿਓਂ, ਮਾਪੇ ਸੋਚਣ?: Kindly note that students, from kindergarten to Grade 12, are not required to have a cell phone for their studies in the schools or out of school.
