After multiple people reported receiving text messages from someone purporting to be from an Ontario government agency, police are warning the public about a scam involving licence plate sticker refunds.
Peel Regional Police posted a photo of a text message sent to some people on Sunday evening, instructing them to click a link in the message to receive a refund for their licence plate sticker. The scammer represented themselves as someone from “Service Ontario” in the message.
Residents were informed by police that ServiceOntario does not send refunds through text.
Premier Doug Ford stated last week that Ontario would no longer charge fees for renewing licence plates and stickers for passenger cars, light trucks, motorbikes, and mopeds. It will be implemented. It will be implemented on March 13th.
Additionally, between March 1, 2020, and March 12, 2022, the government will issue refunds to people who renewed their licence plate stickers.
Residents must update their driver’s licence address and pay any outstanding traffic tickets by March 7 to receive the refund, according to ServiceOntario.
The amount of the return will be determined by when you last renewed and how much you spent, according to the government.
Refund cheques will be mailed beginning at the end of March and continuing through April, according to ServiceOntario.
More than 7.5 million people will receive a refund, according to the province.

ਪਿਛਲੇ ਹਫ਼ਤੇ, ਪ੍ਰੀਮੀਅਰ ਡੱਗ ਫੋਰਡ ਨੇ ਘੋਸ਼ਣਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਓਨਟਾਰੀਓ ਲਾਈਸੈਂਸ ਪਲੇਟ ਨਵਿਆਉਣ ਦੀ ਫੀਸ ਅਤੇ ਯਾਤਰੀ ਵਾਹਨਾਂ, ਲਾਈਟ-ਡਿਊਟੀ ਟਰੱਕਾਂ, ਮੋਟਰਸਾਈਕਲਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੋਪੇਡਾਂ ਲਈ ਸੰਬੰਧਿਤ ਸਟਿੱਕਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਤਮ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ 13 ਮਾਰਚ ਤੋਂ ਲਾਗੂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।

ਸਰਵਿਸ ਓਨਟਾਰੀਓ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਰਿਫੰਡ ਦੇ ਚੈੱਕ ਮਾਰਚ ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ਤੋਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ ਦੇ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਭੇਜੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ।
ਸੂਬੇ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ 7.5 ਮਿਲੀਅਨ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਿਫੰਡ ਮਿਲੇਗਾ।
