ਰੇਕਿਆਵਿਕ, ਆਈਸਲੈਂਡ, 18 ਅਕਤੂਬਰ 2025 — ਉੱਤਰੀ ਤੇ ਆਰਕਟਿਕ ਮਾਮਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਰਿਬੇਕਾ ਚਾਰਟ੍ਰੈਂਡ ਨੇ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਦੀ ਨੁਮਾਇੰਦਗੀ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਆਰਕਟਿਕ ਸਰਕਲ ਐਸੈਂਬਲੀ 2025 ‘ਚ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਲਿਆ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੌਸਮੀ ਤਬਦੀਲੀ, ਖੁਦਮੁਖਤਿਆਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਟਿਕਾਊ ਵਿਕਾਸ ‘ਤੇ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਦੀ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ ਪੋਜੀਸ਼ਨ ਦਰਸਾਈ।
ਤਿੰਨ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਗਲੋਬਲ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ‘ਚ 70 ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਤੋਂ 200 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਨੇਤਾ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਏ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਆਰਕਟਿਕ ਖੇਤਰ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੀਆਂ ਵੱਡੀਆਂ ਚੁਣੌਤੀਆਂ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਉਰਜਾ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ, ਮੌਸਮੀ ਸੰਕਟ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਂਝੀ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ‘ਤੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਹੋਇਆ।
ਚਾਰਟ੍ਰੈਂਡ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਦੀ ਆਰਕਟਿਕ ਨੀਤੀ ਉੱਤਰੀ ਨਿਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਆਦਿਵਾਸੀ ਸਮੁਦਾਇਆਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਤੇ ਅਧਾਰਿਤ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਨੀਤੀ ਖੁਦਮੁਖਤਿਆਰੀ, ਸਾਫ਼ ਉਰਜਾ ਤੇ ਆਰਥਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗੇ ਵਧਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਦੀ ਟੀਮ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਵੀਂ ਆਰਕਟਿਕ ਰਾਜਦੂਤ ਵਰਜਿਨੀਆ ਮੀਰਨਜ਼ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਸੀ, ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਦੇਸ਼ ਆਰਕਟਿਕ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਖੁਦਮੁਖਤਿਆਰੀ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਲਈ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਦੀ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਬਣਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਚਾਰਟ੍ਰੈਂਡ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਦੀ ਬਜਾਏ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਦੀ ਦਿਸ਼ਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਆਰਕਟਿਕ ਖੇਤਰ ਦੀ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਤੇ ਟਿਕਾਊ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਯਕੀਨੀ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ।

Reykjavík, Iceland, Oct 18, 2025 — The Honourable Rebecca Chartrand, Minister of Northern and Arctic Affairs, represented Canada at the 2025 Arctic Circle Assembly, highlighting northern-led climate action, sovereignty, and sustainable growth.
The three-day global summit brought together over 200 leaders from 70 countries to discuss pressing challenges in the Arctic — including energy security, climate change, and regional cooperation.
Minister Chartrand emphasized that Canada’s Arctic priorities are shaped by Northerners and Indigenous communities, focusing on sovereignty, clean energy transition, and sustainable economic development.
Canada’s delegation, joined by Arctic Ambassador Virginia Mearns, shared insights on protecting Arctic sovereignty and advancing national interests through the country’s renewed Arctic and Northern Policy Framework.
Chartrand reiterated that cooperation — not competition — must guide global efforts in safeguarding the Arctic. Canada continues to align investments in clean energy, resilient infrastructure, and skills development to ensure long-term prosperity for northern communities.
