OTTAWA – The first-ever pandemic election in Canada will take place today, with Canadians from coast to coast voting to elect the 338 members of Parliament who will sit in the House of Commons.
According to Elections Canada, nearly 6.8 million people voted early, the majority of whom did so at advanced polls held over a week ago and the rest via special ballots mailed or cast at Elections Canada offices.
However, the majority of Canada’s 30 million eligible voters will cast their ballots today.
Masks are encouraged by Elections Canada, although they are only required in regions where provincial rules require them.
In any province where proof-of-vaccination laws exist, they do not apply at polling stations.
Polling stations are open for 12 hours, but they can open as early as 7 a.m. in some areas. In British Columbia, it can be as late as 9:30 a.m. PST. In Ontario and most of Quebec, it is EDT.
The majority of riding winners will be known by the end of the evening, but Elections Canada has warned that counting all special ballots could take up to four days, which means certain close contests may not have certified winners for many days.

ਪੋਲਿੰਗ ਸਟੇਸ਼ਨ 12 ਘੰਟਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਕੋਲੰਬੀਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਵੇਰੇ 7 ਵਜੇ ਪੀਐਸਟੀ ਤੋਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਅਤੇ ਓਨਟਾਰੀਓ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਵੇਰੇ 9:30 ਵਜੇ ਈਡੀਟੀ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾਤਰ ਕਿਉਬੈਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹਣ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਖੇਤਰ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਵੱਖਰੇ ਹਨ।
