Strike at Toronto’s Union Station, GO bus service halted for the fourth day

TORONTO (AP) — For the fourth day in a row, GO buses are being diverted from Toronto’s Union Station to other transportation hubs owing to continued labour unrest.
The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) went on strike last Wednesday when the union and Toronto Terminals Railway couldn’t come to an agreement.
Signal and communication workers, as well as train movement coordinators, are on strike at Canada’s busiest transit hub.
Suniya Kukaswadia, a Metrolinx spokesperson, said protesters gathered about 10 a.m. today and blocked GO buses from entering the terminal.
She claims that the protest is not disrupting train service.

ਇੰਟਰਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਬ੍ਰਦਰਹੁੱਡ ਆਫ ਇਲੈਕਟ੍ਰੀਕਲ ਵਰਕਰਜ਼ ਦੇ 95 ਕਾਮਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਬੁੱਧਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਯੂਨੀਅਨ ਅਤੇ ਟੋਰਾਂਟੋ ਟਰਮੀਨਲ ਰੇਲਵੇ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਸਮਝੌਤੇ ‘ਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਸਫਲ ਰਹਿਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਹੜਤਾਲ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਸੀ।
ਹੜਤਾਲੀ ਕਰਮਚਾਰੀ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਦੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਅਸਤ ਟਰਾਂਜ਼ਿਟ ਹੱਬ ‘ਤੇ ਸਿਗਨਲ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਚਾਰ ਕਰਮਚਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲ ਟ੍ਰੇਨ ਮੂਵਮੈਂਟ ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰ ਹਨ।
ਟਰਾਂਜ਼ਿਟ ਏਜੰਸੀ ਮੈਟ੍ਰੋਲਿੰਕਸ ਦੇ ਬੁਲਾਰੇ ਸੁਨਿਆ ਕੁਕਸਵਾਡੀਆ ਦਾ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀ ਅੱਜ ਸਵੇਰੇ 10 ਵਜੇ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਏ ਅਤੇ ਟਰਮੀਨਲ ਤੱਕ GO ਬੱਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ‘ਤੇ ਪਾਬੰਦੀ ਲਗਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਰੇਲ ਸੇਵਾ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਿਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
