-OPP is investigating several emergency scams in Barrie and surrounding cities. The victims receive a fraud call and the culprits advise them that their grandchild has been arrested in drug-related offenses, and cash money ($5000 or 6000) is needed for the suspect’s release. An elderly woman was victimized on June 15, and a female (east Asian) visited her home to collect $6000. Ontario provincial police are cautioning the public that officers would never attend a residence to get the bail money.
-Canada’s Study visa refusal rate is touching new heights. Many international students, especially in India, have already been refused multiple times. IRCC received a total of 558883 applications in 2021 for the study visas. 79970 applications were submitted during the first two months of 2022. The approval rate for the applicants from India was around 60 percent in 2021, which fell to 56 percent in February 2022. The approval rate has reportedly fallen further during the past four months.
