Minimum wage in Ontario increased, and here’s what you need to know about it

TORONTO, ON- On Oct. 1, if you earn minimum wage in Ontario, your earnings increased.
This was the province’s second raise in as many years, after the hourly minimum wage was fixed at $14 from 2018 to 2020.
IN ONTARIO, HOW MUCH IS THE MINIMUM WAGE INCREASING?
The minimum hourly pay in Ontario will increase by ten cents on October 1st, from $14.25 to $14.35.
WHERE DO SPECIALIZED MINIMUM WAGES FIT IN?
Students and liquor servers, who are both paid less than the provincial minimum wage, will enjoy a ten-cent boost as well.
Salaries for students will rise from $13.40 to $13.50, while wages for liquor servers will rise from $12.45 to $12.55.
Wages for hunting, fishing, and wilderness guides will increase by 25 cents per hour, bringing the hourly salary to $71.75.
Homeworkers, who are defined by the Ontario government as “employees who conduct paid labour in their own homes,” will receive a ten-cent raise, bringing their hourly compensation to $15.80.
Students of any age (including students under the age of 18) who work as homeworkers must be paid the homeworker’s minimum wage rather than the student’s, according to the government.
If you’re a minimum-wage worker who gets a raise in the middle of your pay period, the government states “the pay period will be treated as two different pay periods, and the employee will be entitled to at least the minimum wage that applies in each of those periods.”
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME ONTARIO’S MINIMUM WAGE INCREASED?
The provincial minimum wage raised from $14 to $14.25 on Oct. 1, 2020.
Prior to that, the minimum wage had not been raised since January 2018, when it was raised from $11.60 to $14, following which the Ford administration imposed a wage freeze.
The Canadian government announced in June that the federal minimum wage would be raised to $15 per hour.

ਓਨਟਾਰੀਓ ਦੀ ਘੱਟੋ -ਘੱਟ ਤਨਖਾਹ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਦੋਂ ਵਧੀ?
1 ਅਕਤੂਬਰ, 2020 ਨੂੰ ਸੂਬਾਈ ਘੱਟੋ -ਘੱਟ ਉਜਰਤ 14 ਡਾਲਰ ਤੋਂ ਵਧ ਕੇ 14.25 ਡਾਲਰ ਹੋ ਗਈ।
ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ, ਜਨਵਰੀ 2018 ਤੋਂ ਘੱਟੋ ਘੱਟ ਉਜਰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਧਾਈ ਗਈ ਸੀ, ਜਦੋਂ ਇਹ $ 11.60 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਕੇ $ 14 ਹੋ ਗਈ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਫੋਰਡ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਤਨਖਾਹ ਫ੍ਰੀਜ਼ ਲਾਗੂ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਜੂਨ ਵਿੱਚ, ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਘੋਸ਼ਣਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਸੰਘੀ ਘੱਟੋ -ਘੱਟ ਉਜਰਤ 29 ਦਸੰਬਰ, 2021 ਨੂੰ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਤ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ 15 ਡਾਲਰ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਘੰਟਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ।
