Students in Ontario will get free menstruation products

The Ontario government has reached an agreement with Shoppers Drug Mart to provide free menstruation products to all students in the province’s schools.
Beginning this fall, the Ontario government has collaborated with Shoppers Drug Mart to deliver free menstruation supplies to students across the province.
In a news release, the province administration stated, “The partnership will benefit kids who require menstruation products but cannot afford or obtain them, resulting in an inability to participate in school and other activities.”
For at least the next three years, Shoppers Drug Mart will give six million critical hygiene supplies to school boards in Ontario for free.
The province stated that boards will have discretion over where the supplies are delivered based on local requirements.
“It has become increasingly evident, thanks to the tremendous lobbying of young leaders in our schools, that menstruation products are a necessity, not a luxury,” Education Minister Stephen Lecce said in a statement.
“This arrangement will assist in the removal of barriers for women and girls by enabling them unfettered access to items at school.”
B.C. made free menstrual products mandatory in all public school toilets in 2019, claiming to be the first jurisdiction to do so.

ਸੂਬਾਈ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਨਿਉਜ਼ ਰਿਲੀਜ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਸਾਂਝੇਦਾਰੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਭ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਏਗੀ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਹਵਾਰੀ ਉਤਪਾਦਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਰੀਦਣ ਜਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਨਤੀਜੇ ਵਜੋਂ ਸਕੂਲ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਗਤੀਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਲੈਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।”
ਸਮਝੌਤੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ੌਪਰਸ ਡਰੱਗ ਮਾਰਟ ਘੱਟੋ -ਘੱਟ ਅਗਲੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਲਈ ਓਨਟਾਰੀਓ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਕੂਲ ਬੋਰਡਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਛੇ ਲੱਖ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਸਫਾਈ ਵਸਤੂਆਂ ਮੁਫਤ ਮੁਹੱਈਆ ਕਰਵਾਏਗਾ।
ਸੂਬਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਲੋੜਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਧਾਰ ਤੇ ਉਤਪਾਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਵੰਡਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਬੋਰਡਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਤਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।
ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸਟੀਫਨ ਨੇ ਜਾਰੀ ਬਿਆਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਸਾਡੇ ਸਕੂਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਨੇਤਾਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ੋਰਦਾਰ ਵਕਾਲਤ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਇਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਪੱਸ਼ਟ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮਾਹਵਾਰੀ ਉਤਪਾਦ ਇੱਕ ਜ਼ਰੂਰਤ ਹੈ, ਨਾ ਕਿ ਲਗਜ਼ਰੀ।”
“ਇਹ ਸਮਝੌਤਾ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਲੜਕੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਕੂਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਤਪਾਦਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੁਫਤ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਰੁਕਾਵਟਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰੇਗਾ।”
2019 ਵਿੱਚ, ਬੀ.ਸੀ. ਨੇਸਾਰੇ ਪਬਲਿਕ ਸਕੂਲ ਦੇ ਬਾਥਰੂਮਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁਫਤ ਮਾਹਵਾਰੀ ਉਤਪਾਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਜ਼ਮੀ ਕੀਤਾ, ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਇਹ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਪ੍ਰੋਵਿੰਸ ਸੀ।
