One of the 17 members of a missionary group kidnapped in Haiti has been identified as a Canadian citizen from Ontario.
The lone Canadian among the group kidnapped by the 400 Mawozo gang is from Ontario, according to Christian Aid Ministries, based in Ohio.
Christian Aid Ministries colleagues throughout the United States, Canada, and other countries are marking a special day of prayer and fasting today, according to a statement from the organisation. “We cordially encourage believers from all across the world to join us.”
The 16 others are from Amish, Mennonite, and other Anabaptist groups in Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, and Oregon, according to the religious aid organisation.
The leader of the 400 Mawozo gang stated earlier Thursday that if he doesn’t get what he wants, he will kill the missionaries. The gang was alleged to be demanding $1 million per person, according to authorities.
A letter from the families of individuals engaged in the incident, including the alleged kidnappers, was also released by Christian Aid Ministries, asking for prayers for all those involved, including the supposed kidnappers.
