*February is Black History Month in Canada.
*February 7 will be Winter Walk to School Day in Brampton, Mississauga, and Caledon.
*Valentine’s Day is on February 14.
*Annual Family Day holiday for Ontarians is on February 19
*A total of 622 secondary school students in Brampton, Mississauga, and Caledon were suspended from September to December 2023, and 249 elementary students were suspended during the same period.
*As an alternative to suspending a student, learning and training around Restorative Justice in Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon schools is ongoing.
*PDSB employees (teachers, staff), and volunteers must report to a child (less than 18 years of age) who may need protection (including abuse and neglect at home) to the Children’s Aid Society. In such cases, Parents/guardians must deal directly with CAS. If a staff member does not report the suspicion of a child’s neglect/abuse to CAS, they are liable to a fine of up to $5000.
*The City of Brampton’s Backyard Garden Program opens tomorrow. Participants will get free soil (5 bags), seeds, and tips to grow and maintain their backyard garden. The residents (maximum 3000, new participants only) will be able to register online from February 1 here: www.brampton.ca/backyardgarden
