TORONTO (Reuters) – Peter Nygard, a former Canadian fashion magnate, was escorted by police on a flight to Toronto, where he is scheduled to appear in court today to face sexual assault accusations, according to his lawyer.
Nygard, according to Jay Prober, flew from Winnipeg to Toronto on Thursday afternoon.
Nygard was charged with six counts of sexual assault and three counts of forcible confinement by Toronto police on Oct. 1. The charges date from the late 1980s to the mid-2000s.
He accepted to be extradited to the United States the same day to face a single sex trafficking charge.
Nygard was arrested in Winnipeg last year under the Extradition Act.
Authorities in New York accuse him of using his influence in the fashion industry to lure women and girls with the promise of modelling and other financial opportunities.
