TORONTO, ON- A limited number of GO bus routes are scheduled to be cancelled Monday, according to Metrolinx, because a number of employees who have not followed the company’s vaccination policy will be laid off.
By November 1, Metrolinx personnel must be completely vaccinated or give documentation of a medical exemption. Those who fail to follow the policy will be put on unpaid leave.
Although the majority of the transportation agency’s employees are completely vaccinated, the number of staff who are unvaccinated or have not revealed their status is enough to cause delays, particularly on the bus network.
As of Oct. 29, 97.1 percent of Metrolinx’s 4,600 employees had filed their vaccination attestation, with 95.4% of those being completely vaccinated.
With the current vaccination rates, the organisation estimates that around 6% of its 1,417 daily bus trips will need to be cancelled. It’s also possible that some railway excursions will be cancelled on a sporadic basis, according to the agency.
“We expect the impact to be modest,” Metrolinx said in a statement, “since we are working hard to deliberately chose a variety of low-ridership itineraries around the region and have additional bus and rail choices available for consumers.”
“Our top concern continues to be ensuring that our service can securely get people where they need to go while minimising any disruption to their schedules.”
Metrolinx spokeswoman Anne Marie Aikins said the organisation does not know which trips will be impacted because the final number of staff who will be placed on unpaid leave has not been determined.
However, Aikins pointed out that the cancellations will be dispersed throughout the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, “so no single consumer will bear the brunt of the impact.”

ਮੈਟ੍ਰੋਲਿੰਕਸ ਦੀ ਬੁਲਾਰਾ ਐਨੀ ਮੈਰੀ ਏਕਿੰਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਏਜੰਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੀ ਕਿ ਕਿਹੜੀਆਂ ਯਾਤਰਾਵਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਿਤ ਹੋਣਗੀਆਂ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਸ ਕੋਲ ਕਰਮਚਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਅੰਤਮ ਸੰਖਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਅਦਾਇਗੀ ਛੁੱਟੀ ‘ਤੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।
