Multiple sources have confirmed that Ottawa Police Service Chief Peter Sloly has resigned. The resignation comes amid weeks of ‘freedom convoy’ protests that have shut down most of downtown Ottawa.
The protests have drawn national and worldwide attention, with many focused on Ottawa police’s failure to intervene to prevent demonstrators from breaking bylaws and legislation, as well as reportedly harassing Ottawa residents.
Sloly joined the agency in October 2019 after serving as deputy police chief for seven years with the Toronto Police Service. Sloly stayed in Toronto for 27 years before departing before his contract expired in 2016.
