Across the province, student unions and youth advocacy groups are urging the provincial government to make free menstruation products available on all post-secondary campuses.
Menstrual injustice and period poverty are the goals of the campaign.
The Toronto Youth Cabinet, which advocates for city youth, and a number of student unions are urging the government to mandate universities and colleges to give free menstrual products by the end of the year in a letter addressed to the government today.
The group wants the province to build on the success it made last October when it unveiled a plan to provide free menstruation products to all students in the province’s schools.
According to the letter, period poverty is just as significant in post-secondary schools, and students who do not have access to resources to manage their periods are at danger of missing school or employment.
According to the organisation, no young person should be forced to drop out of school due to a lack of inexpensive and accessible menstruation supplies.
