In a southern Ontario highway crash, students from Toronto and Montreal identified as victims
QUINTE WEST, ONTARIO— Five Indian students were killed in a deadly collision between a vehicle and a tractor trailer on Highway 401 near Quinte West, Ont., according to police.
Harpreet Singh, Jaspinder Singh, Karanpal Singh, Mohit Chouhan, and Pawan Kumar were pronounced dead at the site of the incident on Saturday, according to the Quinte West OPP.
The victims, who range in age from 21 to 24, were all students in the Greater Toronto and Montreal areas, according to provincial police.
They were driving west on Highway 401 in a passenger van when they crashed with a tractor trailer at 3:45 a.m. Saturday.
Two additional passengers were brought to the hospital with significant injuries, according to police.

ਕੁਇੰਟ ਵੈਸਟ, ਓਨਟਾਰੀਓ – ਪੁਲਿਸ ਦਾ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਓਨਟਾਰੀਓ ਦੇ ਕੁਇੰਟੇ ਵੈਸਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਾਈਵੇਅ 401 ‘ਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਵੈਨ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਟਰੈਕਟਰ ਟਰੇਲਰ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਹੋਈ ਘਾਤਕ ਟੱਕਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਪੰਜ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
ਕੁਇੰਟੇ ਵੈਸਟ ਓਪੀਪੀ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਨਿਊਜ਼ ਰੀਲੀਜ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਹਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ, ਜਸਪਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ, ਕਰਨਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ, ਮੋਹਿਤ ਚੌਹਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਪਵਨ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਨੀਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਹਾਦਸੇ ਵਾਲੀ ਥਾਂ ‘ਤੇ ਮ੍ਰਿਤਕ ਐਲਾਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।
ਪੀੜਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ 21 ਤੋਂ 24 ਸਾਲ ਦਰਮਿਆਨ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸੂਬਾਈ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਦਾ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਗ੍ਰੇਟਰ ਟੋਰਾਂਟੋ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਂਟਰੀਅਲ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਸਨ।
ਉਹ ਸ਼ਨੀਵਾਰ ਸਵੇਰੇ ਹਾਈਵੇਅ 401 ‘ਤੇ ਇਕ ਯਾਤਰੀ ਵੈਨ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੜਕੇ 3:45 ‘ਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਟਰੈਕਟਰ ਟਰਾਲੀ ਨਾਲ ਟੱਕਰ ਹੋ ਗਈ।
ਪੁਲਿਸ ਦਾ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹਾਦਸੇ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਦੋ ਹੋਰ ਯਾਤਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਸੱਟਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ਲਿਜਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ।
