A female pedestrian was gravely injured after she was struck by a vehicle in Thorncliffe Park on Wednesday evening, according to Toronto police.
Just before 8 p.m., it happened at the intersection of Thorncliffe Park Drive and Milepost Place, south of Overlea Boulevard.
The pedestrian, a woman in her early 70s, was seriously injured and was sent to a trauma centre in critical condition.
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, but officers were able to track him down and contact him with the help of witnesses, according to Duty Insp. Roger Caracciolo.
later driver did return to the scene, he said, and is currently participating with the inquiry.
When asked if the severe fog played a role in the crash, Caracciolo indicated that was something that investigators will look into.
On Wednesday evening, Environment Canada issued a fog alert for the city.
Foggy conditions are expected to persist until Thursday morning, according to the weather service, resulting in restricted visibility in some regions.
