TORONTO, ON- On September 20, millions of people will queue up at polling booths across the country to vote in the federal election of 2021.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT VOTING IN THE AREA OF GREATER TORONTO
The polls will be open from 9:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m.
Residents who obtained a voter card must travel to the voting station listed on the card. The card should have the address. Bring identification with your name and, if possible, the address that corresponds to the voter card.
You may bring a bank statement, utility bill, or residential lease if the address on your driver’s licence, health card, or passport does not match the address on your voter card. You can get a complete list of acceptable IDs here.
If you don’t have identification, you can still vote if you write down your name and address and have someone who knows you and is assigned to your polling location vouch for you. The voucher holder must be able to provide proof of identification and address.
Because voting will take place indoors, residents will be required to wear a mask in accordance with COVID-19 requirements.
Voters will also receive a single-use pencil from Elections Canada to mark their ballots. Voters are also welcome to bring their own pen or pencil.
At each polling location, there will be hand sanitising stations as well as obvious physical separation markers.
Due to a reduction in the number of polling locations, voters may have to wait a little longer to cast their ballots.
On September 20, there will be around 14,000 polling locations. While this may appear to be a significant number, it represents a 7% decrease from 2019. Eight GTA ridings will have half the number of polling booths as last year.
This year, the Toronto District School Board will provide around 120 voting sites, up from 308 during the last federal election.
Some school boards have also pushed to keep polling stations out of classrooms.
