In keeping with tradition, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland revealed the date of the budget during question period on March 29. Two years into the COVID-19 pandemic, Canadians are expecting the budget to provide a clear picture of the route ahead.
The estimates for the Canadian economy and inflation were substantially clouded by the oncoming Omicron wave of the pandemic when Freeland last provided a budget update in December 2021.
Inflation could return to its objective of 2% by late 2022, according to that prediction.
Despite the fact that public health officials believe Canada has passed the top of the Omicron wave, inflation remained high in February, at 5.7 percent, according to Statistics Canada statistics. Furthermore, Russia’s war in Ukraine is causing economic instability and exacerbating supply chain problems.
Gas prices have soared to new highs in recent weeks as oil prices have risen in response to the crisis.
