Bank of Canada increased its main interest rate by 0.5 percentage

The Bank of Canada has increased its key interest rate by half a percentage point to 1.5 percent, marking the second time in a row that it has increased by a higher amount than typical due to stubbornly high inflation.
The central bank increased its key interest rate by half a percentage point to 1% in April, the largest increase in 22 years and following a quarter-percentage-point increase in March.
The Bank of Canada adjusts its benchmark interest rate in an effort to keep inflation under control, with a two-percentage-point objective.
In April, the annual rate of inflation increased to 6.8%, the fastest increase in more than three decades, according to Statistics Canada.
Experts believe that the rising cost of consumer items, such as fuel and groceries, will lead to more interest rate hikes this year.

ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਬੈਂਕ ਨੇ ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਮੁੱਖ ਵਿਆਜ ਦਰ ਅੱਧਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਸ਼ਤ ਵਧਾ ਕੇ ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਸ਼ਤ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਸੀ।
ਬੈਂਕ ਆਫ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਨੇ ਮੁਦਰਾਸਫੀਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਕੰਟਰੋਲ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਟਰੈਂਡਸੈਟਿੰਗ ਵਿਆਜ ਦਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਦਲਾਅ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।

ਗੈਸੋਲੀਨ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਕਰਿਆਨੇ ਤੱਕ ਖਪਤਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਸਤੂਆਂ ਦੀ ਵਧਦੀ ਕੀਮਤ ਤੋਂ ਮਾਹਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਨੁਮਾਨ ਲਗਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਸਾਲ ਵਿਆਜ ਦਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਰ ਵਾਧਾ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਵਨਾ ਹੈ।
