Canada breaks record, issues 450,000 study permits in 2021, India tops

Last year, approximately 450,000 new study permits were issued in Canada, a remarkable total that nearly doubled from 2015 and comfortably surpassed the previous all-time high established in 2019.
The country that benefited the most was India, which received 217,410 permits. China came in second, with 105,265 study permits issued.
In 2020, Canada had issued slightly over 255,000 study permits due to the epidemic.
Canada had almost 622,000 international students as of December 31st. Its international student population peaked at over 640,000 in 2019, before plummeting to around 530,000 in 2020 due to the epidemic.
