Quebec’s premier congratulated Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau on his federal election victory after lambasting him during the campaign.
François Legault congratulated Justin Trudeau on his minority government victory on Twitter early Tuesday morning.
He wrote, “I will work with him to advance the interests of Quebec.”
Following the English-language discussion between party leaders, the premier made a splash earlier this month when he was particularly critical of Trudeau.
Legault accused the Liberal leader of interfering in provincial matters ranging from long-term care home administration to housing.
During the 36-day campaign, he also took aim at the NDP and the Greens, claiming that a Conservative government led by Erin O’Toole would be easier to deal with.
With Trudeau’s victory, the Liberal Party was able to retain several of its seats in the province, according to the latest figures. A swath of red strongholds in Montreal falls into this category.
Trudeau went out early Tuesday to thank constituents for their support in his Papineau riding after his minority victory.
