Inflation rose to 6.8% in April, according to Statistics Canada

In April, the cost of practically everything at the grocery store continued to rise, raising the yearly inflation rate.
According to Statistics Canada, the consumer price index grew 6.8% in April compared to the same month a year ago, up from 6.7 percent in March.
The yearly rate was at its highest since January 1991, when it was 6.9%.
Overall, food expenses increased 8.8% year over year, with Canadians paying 9.7% more for food in stores in April, the highest increase since September 1981. The price of food in restaurants increased by 6.6%.
Fresh fruit was 10% more expensive than a year ago, fresh vegetables were 8.2% more expensive, and meat was 10% more expensive. Bread prices increased 12.2%, while pasta prices increased 19.6% and rice prices increased 7.4%.
According to Statistics Canada, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in late February has put increased pricing pressure on wheat-based foods, while adverse weather in growing regions has also influenced food costs.
Higher prices for fertiliser and natural gas, according to the agency, have continued to raise costs for farmers, who have passed part of these costs on to consumers.
A 7.4% increase in shelter costs as the cost of heating a home increased also contributed to the overall rise in the cost of living. Natural gas increased by 22.2%, while fuel oil and other fuels increased by 64.4%.
Consumers paid 36.3 percent more for gasoline in April than they did a year earlier, although the increase was less than the 39.8 percent increase saw in March.
With fuel excluded, the annual average in April was 5.8%, up from 5.5 percent in March.
In April, the average of the three core inflation indicators regularly monitored by the Bank of Canada increased to 4.23 percent, up from 3.93 percent in March.

ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਗੈਸ 22.2 ਫੀਸਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਲਣ ਤੇਲ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਬਾਲਣ 64.4 ਫੀਸਦੀ ਵਧੇ।
