International students protesting against Alpha College for the 4th day in a row call for support
ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਚੌਥੇ ਦਿਨ ਅਲਫ਼ਾ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਖਿਲਾਫ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ
(Kultaran Singh Padhiana)- Alpha College (a private college and partner of the public St. Lawrence College) unexpectedly unenrolled hundreds of international students, forcing them to take an unofficial deferral from their studies. Students living in Canada and those awaiting the start of term in India reported being shut out of their portal suddenly after paying tens of thousands in tuition fees. An unofficial break in their studies would mean they are also unable to work over the 20 hour/week limit and are exposed to more exploitative employers.
After hearing this announcement, three days ago international students started protesting in front of Alpha College in Scarborough to demand answers. The college has been sending emails to some students haphazardly, saying they will be re-enrolled for the Spring term. An official decision from the College director will come on Tuesday, but students want assurance from the college that no student will be left behind, be they in India or in Canada.
ਅਲਫ਼ਾ ਕਾਲਜ (ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਈਵੇਟ ਕਾਲਜ ਅਤੇ ਪਬਲਿਕ ਸੇਂਟ ਲਾਰੈਂਸ ਕਾਲਜ ਦਾ ਸਹਿਭਾਗੀ) ਨੇ ਅਣਕਿਆਸੇ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਸੈਂਕੜੇ ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਖਲਾ ਰੱਦ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਤੋਂ ਅਣਅਧਿਕਾਰਤ ਮੁਲਤਵੀ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਮਜਬੂਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿ ਰਹੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਿਆਦ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ ਉਡੀਕ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਡਾਲਰ ਦੀ ਟਿਊਸ਼ਨ ਫੀਸ ਅਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਅਚਾਨਕ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੋਰਟਲ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਦ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਰਿਪੋਰਟ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਣਅਧਿਕਾਰਤ ਬ੍ਰੇਕ ਦਾ ਮਤਲਬ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ 20 ਘੰਟੇ/ਹਫ਼ਤੇ ਦੀ ਸੀਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਅਸਮਰੱਥ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਸ਼ੋਸ਼ਣ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਾਲਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਪਰਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਨ।
ਇਹ ਘੋਸ਼ਣਾ ਸੁਣਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਤਿੰਨ ਦਿਨ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਜਵਾਬ ਮੰਗਣ ਲਈ ਸਕਾਰਬੋਰੋ ਦੇ ਅਲਫਾ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਕਾਲਜ ਕੁਝ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੇਤਰਤੀਬੇ ਈਮੇਲ ਭੇਜ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਕਹਿ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਬਸੰਤ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੈਸ਼ਨ ਲਈ ਦੁਬਾਰਾ ਦਾਖਲ ਹੋਣਗੇ। ਕਾਲਜ ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਤ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਮੰਗਲਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਵੇਗਾ, ਪਰ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਤੋਂ ਇਹ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹੇਗਾ, ਭਾਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਵੇ ਜਾਂ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿੱਚ।
