As part of fourth COVID-19 wave, Toronto will extend mask bylaw until 2022

TORONTO, ON- As the COVID-19 pandemic persists, the City of Toronto is extending its interim mask bylaw until 2022.
On the opinion of Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Eileen de Villa, city council made the decision on Friday. The extension will extend until the end of the council’s meeting in January 2022.
The city warned in a news release on Friday that “in an interior environment, transmission as a result of the Delta variation may occur fast between an infected individual and many others, especially among the unvaccinated.”
“It is critical to ensure that individuals are appropriately wearing masks or face coverings in public places in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”

Residents in the city must wear masks in all indoor public situations, including businesses and common areas in multi-family housing.
The mask mandate in Toronto went into effect on July 7, 2020, during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Toronto City Council decided overwhelmingly to make masks or facial coverings mandatory in all enclosed public spaces.
In a news release, Toronto Mayor John Tory said, “Public health data shows masks keep people safe and are an essential way we can help each other as team Toronto continues to make vaccine progress.”

ਟੋਰਾਂਟੋ ਦਾ ਮਾਸਕ ਨਿਯਮ ਕੋਵਿਡ -19 ਮਹਾਂਮਾਰੀ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਲਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ 7 ਜੁਲਾਈ, 2020 ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਟੋਰਾਂਟੋ ਸਿਟੀ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਨੇ ਸਰਬਸੰਮਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰੇ ਬੰਦ ਜਨਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਾਸਕ ਜਾਂ ਚਿਹਰੇ ਦੇ ਟੱਕਣ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਦੇ ਪੱਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੋਟ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
ਟੋਰਾਂਟੋ ਦੇ ਮੇਅਰ ਜੌਨ ਟੋਰੀ ਨੇ ਨਿਉਜ਼ ਰਿਲੀਜ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਜਨਤਕ ਸਿਹਤ ਦੇ ਸਬੂਤ ਦਿਖਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਮਾਸਕ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਇੱਕ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਣ ਤਰੀਕਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਇੱਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਟੀਮ ਟੋਰਾਂਟੋ ਟੀਕਾਕਰਣ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਗਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਰੀ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ।”
