The Ford administration spending $763 million on $5,000 retention incentives to nurses

The province has confirmed that it will invest more than $700 million to provide eligible nurses in the province with retention compensation of up to $5,000.
The Ford administration disclosed the lump sum payment in a news release issued Monday, which was previously verified by the Ontario Nurses Association (ONA) last month.
“Nurses have remained on the front lines with remarkable dedication and selflessness as they care for our sick and most vulnerable Ontarians throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and we know that a strong nursing workforce is crucial to supporting the province’s recovery in the months and years ahead,” Christine Elliott, deputy premier and minister of health, said in a written statement.
“As we work to expand our nursing workforce, this investment will help to support the nurses we already have, ensuring that Ontarians have access to the care they require during the COVID-19 outbreak and in the future.”
Premier Doug Ford and the union agreed “a good-faith retention bonus for all front-line nurses in publicly funded facilities,” according to the ONA.
According to ONA President Cathryn Hoy, specific agreements were made during the discussions to “take multiple initiatives to remedy Ontario’s chronic nurse shortage.”
The province announced on Monday that it will invest $763 million in the payouts, which will be split into two instalments.

ਓਐਨਏ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਕੈਥਰੀਨ ਹੋਏ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਦੌਰਾਨ, “ਓਨਟਾਰੀਓ ਦੀ ਨਰਸਿੰਗ ਦੀ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਘਾਟ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਕਈ ਉਪਾਅ ਲਾਗੂ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਠੋਸ ਵਚਨਬੱਧਤਾਵਾਂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਸਨ।”
