ਭਾਰਤ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਸਵਦੇਸ਼ੀ ਸੁਪਰ ਐਂਟੀਬਾਇਓਟਿਕ ਨੈਫੀਥ੍ਰੋਮਾਈਸਿਨ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸਨੂੰ ਦਵਾਈ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਰੋਧਕ ਸਾਹ ਇਨਫੈਕਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਇਲਾਜ ਲਈ ਬਹੁਤ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਐਜੀਥ੍ਰੋਮਾਈਸਿਨ ਨਾਲੋਂ 10 ਗੁਣਾ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਅਸਰਦਾਰ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਮੋਨੀਆ ਵਰਗੀਆਂ ਬਿਮਾਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਇਲਾਜ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤਿੰਨ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਇਹ ਦਵਾਈ 14 ਸਾਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਖੋਜ ਅਤੇ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਨਾਲ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਫਾਰਮਾਸਿਊਟਿਕਲ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਨਿਰਭਰਤਾ ਵੱਲ ਇਕ ਵੱਡੀ ਛਾਲ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਅਤੇ ਤਕਨੀਕੀ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਡਾ. ਜੀਤੇਂਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਭਾਰਤ ਦਾ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਮੈਡੀਕਲ ਤੌਰ ’ਤੇ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਵਦੇਸ਼ੀ ਮਾਲੀਕਿਊਲ ਹੈ।
ਇਹ ਐਂਟੀਬਾਇਓਟਿਕ ਮੁੰਬਈ ਸਥਿਤ ਵਾਕਹਾਰਟ ਲਿਮਟਿਡ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਜੀਵ ਟੈਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ (ਡੀਬੀਟੀ) ਅਤੇ ਬਾਇਓਟੈਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਉਦਯੋਗ ਖੋਜ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕੌਂਸਲ (ਬਾਇਰੈਕ) ਦੇ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਕਸਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ।

ਇਸ ਦਵਾਈ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਪੜਾਅ ਦੇ ਟਰਾਇਲ ਸਫਲ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਭਾਰਤ, ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਅਤੇ ਯੂਰਪ ਦੇ ਮਰੀਜ਼ਾਂ ’ਤੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਸਨ। ਨਤੀਜੇ 97 ਫੀਸਦੀ ਤੱਕ ਤਸੱਲੀਬਖਸ਼ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਇਹ ਦਵਾਈ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਤੌਰ ’ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਰੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਲਈ ਲਾਭਦਾਇਕ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਰੋਕੂ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਕੈਂਸਰ ਜਾਂ ਡਾਇਬਟੀਜ਼ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਰੀਜ਼।
ਇਸਨੂੰ ਸਟ੍ਰੈਪਟੋਕੋਕਸ ਬੈਕਟੀਰੀਆ ‘ਤੇ ਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਨਿਮੋਨੀਆ ਦੇ 33 ਫੀਸਦੀ ਮਾਮਲਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

India has successfully developed its first indigenous super antibiotic — Nafithromycin, which has shown remarkable results against drug-resistant respiratory infections. According to officials, this antibiotic is 10 times more effective than Azithromycin and can cure infections like pneumonia in just three days.
Developed after 14 years of research, Nafithromycin marks a major step towards pharmaceutical self-reliance under India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Union Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, said that the antibiotic is the first fully developed and medically approved molecule in India, a breakthrough achievement for the country’s biotech and healthcare sectors.
The antibiotic was developed by Wockhardt Limited, Mumbai, with support from the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) under the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC).

Initial trials in India, the USA, and Europe on multi-drug resistant patients have shown up to 97% success rate. Experts claim Nafithromycin could revolutionize the treatment of severe bacterial infections, especially in cancer and diabetic patients with weakened immunity.
It has proven highly effective against the Streptococcus bacteria, responsible for nearly 33% of pneumonia cases worldwide.
