Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath stands in solidarity with Ontario carpenters

SUDBURY – NDP Leader Andrea Horwath released the following statement as 15,000 Carpenters’ District Council of Ontario members across Ontario strike for the first time in 34 years, demanding fair wages:

“Ontario New Democrats and I stand in solidarity with the Carpenters’ District Council of Ontario members taking job action, and their families. They deserve wages that keep up with the skyrocketing cost of living. They deserve to benefit from the wealth they’re building. Carpenters are absolutely vital to Ontario.

Doug Ford’s low-wage policy is having a ripple effect through the jobs economy. Ford is forcing the wages of all provincial employees down below inflation with Bill 124 — putting the squeeze on hard-working people like PSWs, clerks, truck drivers, social workers, health care workers, education workers, teachers and more. That’s setting a precedent, and sending a message to all employers. There are tens of thousands of construction and trades workers from three unions now off the job. The working folks who belong to the Carpenters union, LiUNA Local 183 members and International Union on Operating Engineers (IUOE) crane and heavy machinery operators have all been forced into job action. These are the everyday people paying the price for Ford’s low-wage policy. Construction projects all over Ontario will be impacted.

No worker in Ontario should have to settle for wages that don’t pay the bills. It’s time to get costs down and lift wages up, so everyone can build their best life.”

ਸਡਬਰੀ – ਐਨਡੀਪੀ ਲੀਡਰ ਐਂਡਰੀਆ ਹੌਰਵਥ ਨੇ ਨਿਮਨਲਿਖਤ ਬਿਆਨ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਓਨਟਾਰੀਓ ਦੇ 15,000 ਕਾਰਪੇਂਟਰਸ ਡਿਸਟ੍ਰਿਕਟ ਕਾਉਂਸਿਲ ਆਫ ਓਨਟਾਰੀਓ ਦੇ ਮੈਂਬਰਾਂ ਨੇ 34 ਸਾਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ ਹੜਤਾਲ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਚਿਤ ਉਜਰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਕੀਤੀ।

ਡੱਗ ਫੋਰਡ ਦੀ ਘੱਟ ਤਨਖਾਹ ਵਾਲੀ ਨੀਤੀ ਦਾ ਨੌਕਰੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਆਰਥਿਕਤਾ ‘ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਪੈ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਫੋਰਡ ਬਿੱਲ 124 ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੂਬਾਈ ਕਰਮਚਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਤਨਖਾਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਹਿੰਗਾਈ ਤੋਂ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਲਈ ਮਜਬੂਰ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ – PSWs, ਕਲਰਕਾਂ, ਟਰੱਕ ਡਰਾਈਵਰਾਂ, ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਵਰਕਰਾਂ, ਸਿਹਤ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਮਚਾਰੀਆਂ, ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਮਚਾਰੀਆਂ, ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰਾਂ ਵਰਗੇ ਮਿਹਨਤੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ‘ਤੇ ਦਬਾਅ ਪਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਤਿੰਨ ਯੂਨੀਅਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਉਸਾਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਵਪਾਰ ਮਜ਼ਦੂਰ ਹੁਣ ਨੌਕਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਹਨ। ਕਾਰਪੇਂਟਰ ਯੂਨੀਅਨ, ਲਿਯੂਐਨਏ ਲੋਕਲ 183 ਮੈਂਬਰ ਅਤੇ ਇੰਟਰਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਯੂਨੀਅਨ ਆਨ ਓਪਰੇਟਿੰਗ ਇੰਜਨੀਅਰਜ਼ (IUOE) ਕ੍ਰੇਨ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰੀ ਮਸ਼ੀਨਰੀ ਆਪਰੇਟਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਤ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨੌਕਰੀ ਦੀ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਲਈ ਮਜਬੂਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਉਹ ਲੋਕ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਫੋਰਡ ਦੀ ਘੱਟ ਤਨਖਾਹ ਨੀਤੀ ਦੀ ਕੀਮਤ ਅਦਾ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਪੂਰੇ ਓਨਟਾਰੀਓ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਿਤ ਹੋਣਗੇ।

ਓਨਟਾਰੀਓ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਵਰਕਰ ਨੂੰ ਉਜਰਤਾਂ ਲਈ ਸੈਟਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਜੋ ਬਿਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਭੁਗਤਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਸਮਾਂ ਖਰਚਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਘਟਾਉਣ ਅਤੇ ਤਨਖਾਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਧਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਆਪਣੀ ਵਧੀਆ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਬਣਾ ਸਕੇ। ”
