Official reports said Tuesday that a landslide at a construction site in southwestern China killed 14 people and injured three more.
The cause of the landslide in Bijie, Guizhou province, on Monday evening is being investigated, according to sources.
At the time of the disaster, workers were constructing a training centre for a hospital. Guizhou, inland and mountainous, is one of China’s least developed provinces.
According to Xinhua News Agency, more than 1,000 individuals participated in the nocturnal rescue effort.
As a result of management cutting shortcuts, low enforcement of safety regulations, and deteriorating infrastructure, workplace accidents are a recurring concern in China.
A large explosion at a chemical warehouse in the port city of Tianjin in 2015 was one of China’s worst catastrophes, killing 173 people, the majority of them were firefighters and police officers.

ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਖਿਸਕਣ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਰਕਰ ਇੱਕ ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਸਿਖਲਾਈ ਸਹੂਲਤ ਬਣਾ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ। ਪਹਾੜੀ ਗੁਈਜ਼ੋ ਚੀਨ ਦੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਘੱਟ ਵਿਕਸਤ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ।
