-If any coronavirus patients have no place to self-isolate in Brampton, Mississauga and Caledon, they can call 905 281 1269 to get a government-funded space (along with three meals daily and free Wi-Fi in the rooms) to complete their Isolation period. Transportation to and from the center is also provided.
-Brampton MP, Ruby Sahota confirms that the federal government is continuously keeping an eye on the surging COVID-19 situation in India. The government has the option to temporarily suspend flights coming from that country. Provinces have started asking the Canadian government to tighten the borders before it is too late.
-The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) has confirmed that at least 211 fines have been issued to international travelers (who refused to stay in a listed hotel) since the 3-days-hotel-quarantine program I sin effect from February 2021. These people arrived at the Pearson Airport Ontario without having reserved a hotel and then refused to do it. A fine for refusing to stay in a government-approved hotel near the airport stands $3000.
-Federal Government’s hotel-quarantine requirement has been extended until at least May 21 on April 20.
-Ontario Premier Douglas Ford’s popularity is reportedly sinking in a free fall. He was at around 32 percent before his recent announcement of stay-at-home order but it is now at near 22 percent.
-Gas prices on the gas pumps keep going up since this year 2021 started. A liter price in Brampton has crossed $1.25 at Shell and Esso.
-Brampton’s coronavirus positivity rate has gone over 22 percent during the recent weeks. Around 200 COVID-19 positive patients are admitted to the civic hospital in the city.
-4 new COVID-19 related deaths were reported during the past 48 hours in Brampton. 261 patients have died in the city since the outbreak of the pandemic. There are 2940 active patients who are in self-isolation and struggling to recover from the infection in this city. Mississauga has 1833 active patients and there are 232 patients in Caledon.
-Ontario’s hotspots (GTA) are hard-hit by the coronavirus, and more than 550 patients had to be transferred by helicopters and ambulances to the hospitals in the past two weeks. Hospitals (in Brampton, Mississauga, and Etobicoke) run by the William Osler Health Systems transferred out 565 patients to the other care centers/hospitals since November 2020, to make space for the massive influx of COVID-19 patients.
-There are more than 800 COVID-19 patients who are admitted to the intensive care units in Ontario. The province has recorded a total of 7800 deaths until now.
-China has reportedly vaccinated its 200 million (over 14 percent) people until now. Canada has given at least one dose to around 25 percent of the population. China’s total population is over 1400 million, and Canada is home to 37 million residents. It is believed that the coronavirus started from Wuhan (China) in Nov. 2019.
-PM Justin Trudeau appointed yesterday Hon. Ralph Goodale (former federal minister and a veteran MP from Saskatchewan) as High Commissioner for Canada in the United Kingdom. Mr. Goodale will provide strategic advice to the Prime Minister on areas of importance to people in Canada and the United Kingdom.
-A recent survey shows that people in the Southern Ontario Regions are not clear about the safety and efficacy of AstraZeneca. Only a little more than 43 percent of residents believe that it is a good vaccine to protect them from the deadly coronavirus. 29 percent of people reject it and around 28 percent did not express their opinion about the vaccine that makes headlines from the very beginning.
-The Peel police have charged a Whitby resident (57) who tried to gain entry to Canada with the help of a fraudulent COVID-19 test after arriving at the Pearson International Airport on Tuesday. He will have to appear in Brampton court on July 5.
-Ontario has administered over 4 million vaccines (at least 1 shot) in the province. More than 350000 people have received both doses.
-13 suspected thieves of residential break and enters (from January to April 2021) in Brampton have been charged by the Peel Police and laid 66 criminal charges. The police also recovered approximately $50000 worth of stolen items.
