On Wednesday night, an Air Canada Dreamliner in Toronto was loaded with much-needed medical supplies for Ukraine.
Some of the cargo was gathered by the city’s Ukrainian population, who used donated funds to purchase over-the-counter medications.
Slav Lukan, a Ukrainian resident in Toronto, said that his community simply wants to help in any way they can.
“It’s really incredible.” The most essential [thing] is that there are numerous critical meds and supplies on board [the plane], and they’ll be there in eight hours, in Poland, for another four to five hours, in a local hospital, just think about it.”
The humanitarian flight is being supported by Global Medic. Much-needed trauma supplies for the wounded, as well as crucial pharmaceuticals, are on board, according to the organization’s founder, Rahul Singh.
“People escaping the battle and seeking to reach safety run with just the clothing on their backs, get to a train station, and jump on a train.” There’s a good chance they have a medical issue. “They don’t have their pills for high blood pressure or diabetes,” he told CTV News Toronto on the tarmac at Pearson International Airport.
People who become ill without their medicine may end up in the hospital. However, Singh stated that the hospitals are already overburdened with the battle injured.
Global Medic is also delivering 1,000,000 water purifying kits to Ukrainian cities where the Russian invaders have cut off their water supply.
